Drywall or Boarding

Drywall consists of a layer of gypsum plaster sandwiched between two layers of paper. It is used to make interior walls and ceiling.

Drywall provides many advantages to business and home owners. Drywall is easier to build with, acts as a sound barrier, is easily repairable and insulates, keeping the heat inside.

Installing drywall can be a tideous task. To be effective, measurements and cuts must be as close to precise as possible to eliminate any waste. The positioning of drywall must also be calculated, placement of seams, correct spacing between sheets and fastening of the drywall panel must be done properly to leave a visible impression.

Taping

Taping

Taping is a procedure which the joints and corner seams of the drywall are mudded and taped to achieve a uniform look. Drywall tape and joint compound are adhered together with the drywall.

Taping is usually completed in three layers. Taping coat, where the joint compound (mud) is applied to seams and corners, joint tape is then pressed into the joint compound. A filler coat, where a coat of joint compound is applied on top of the join tape and left roughly smoothened. A final top coat, Joint compound is applied above all previous coats and left very smooth.

If all coats of joint compound are applied correctly, a light sanding of the final top coat will leave the surface ready for final decoration.

Renovations

Renovations usually occur when someone's imagination has been sparked, a repair turns into a make over or when things become outdated. Transformation of a space with good design decisions and great workmanship are two essentials of a renovation. It is common for renovations to take longer than anticipated but with a little patience and progress being made, it is important that things are being completed correctly.
